A child's chart is read for temperament and season. The Moon sign tells you what settles them; the current planetary period tells you what kind of year it is: a studying year, an active year, a year for the family. What a planetary period is.
The year is read from the slow planets passing over the child's Moon. Where Jupiter is, the tradition sees help; where Saturn is, it asks for patience. The full reading inside the product names the months.
The year runs from the child's last birthday, not from January.

Worked example
One fixed example birth, run through the same engine as the calculator, so the page and the result can never disagree.
Example: a child we call Priya, born 2 September 2018 at 07:45 in Pune, India. This is a fixed example, not a real child, computed by the same engine as the form below on 5 October 2026.
- Sun sign
- Virgo. Western Moon sign: Taurus.
- Rashi
- Vrishabha (Taurus), in Krittika nakshatra.
The shape of the year from Priya's last birthday, in the Vedic voice. It is counted on the sidereal zodiac from the Moon sign, the Rashi, not from the Sun sign:
Jupiter holds Karka (Cancer) most of this year. It sits in the 3rd from Priya's Moon, and changes sign into Simha (Leo) inside the window. Jupiter's sign says what a year is for. No other benefic, or kindly planet, moves slowly enough to define one.
Saturn stands in the 11th from Priya's Moon, one of the three houses where Saturn is welcome from the Moon. Saturn's sign is the year's floor. What it touches gets slower and more solid.
A year worth giving to: building the foundation the next year stands on.
Go easy on: starting more than a year can finish.
How it is worked out
The calculator turns your birth date, time and place into one moment in universal time. It uses the birth place's time zone rules for that date. It computes the planets for that moment with an astronomical ephemeris.
Western signs are counted from the spring equinox. Vedic signs are the same positions minus the Lahiri ayanamsa, about 24 degrees today. The year is read from Jupiter, Saturn and the lunar nodes as they change sign, counted from the child's chart.
With no birth time, the chart is cast for midday and the rising sign is left out. The full method.
What this cannot tell you
- A chart describes tendencies. It does not decide who a child becomes, and it is no guide to health, learning or development.
- The outline needs an accurate birth time for anything that depends on the houses.
- This is for reflection and cultural interest. It describes tendencies, does not predict events, and is not medical, legal or financial advice.
