What is my Moon sign?
Your Moon sign is the sign the Moon was in when you were born. Enter your birth date, time and place below to find it. You get the Western Moon sign and the Vedic one, the Rashi.
Your Moon sign is the sign the Moon occupied at your birth. The Moon moves through a sign every two and a half days, so it needs your birth date and, ideally, the time.
The Moon changes sign every two to three days. Because the Moon is the fastest body in the sky, two people born a day apart can have different Moon signs and very different inner lives.
In astrology the Moon sign describes how you feel and recharge, which a Sun-sign horoscope never sees.
In Vedic astrology the Moon sign IS your sign: the Rashi. It is measured against the stars, so it often sits one sign earlier than the Western Moon sign. The result shows both, with the nakshatra (the Moon's mansion) the Vedic reading uses for timing. Find your Rashi and nakshatra.

The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, so the date matters. At the same time on 13 May, the Rashi is Dhanu (Sagittarius) at 5°36′. On 16 May, it is Makara (Capricorn) at 12°15′.
How it is worked out
The calculator turns your birth date, time and place into one moment in universal time. It uses the birth place's time zone rules for that date. It computes the planets for that moment with an astronomical ephemeris.
Western signs are counted from the spring equinox. Vedic signs are the same positions minus the Lahiri ayanamsa, about 24 degrees today. The nakshatra is which of 27 equal parts of the zodiac, each 13°20′ wide, the sidereal Moon sits in.
With no birth time, the chart is cast for midday and the rising sign is left out. The full method.
What this cannot tell you
- If the Moon changed sign on your birth day, you need the birth time to be sure of the Moon sign.
- The Western and Vedic Moon signs are both correct for their own zodiac. They measure from different starting points.
- This is for reflection and cultural interest. It describes tendencies, does not predict events, and is not medical, legal or financial advice.
Related questions
Can I find my Moon sign without a birth time?
- Usually. The Moon stays in one sign for about two and a half days, so the date alone is often enough. On a day it changes sign, the time decides it.
Is my Moon sign the same as my Rashi?
- Your Rashi is your Moon sign on the sidereal zodiac. It is often one sign earlier than the Western Moon sign.
