The dates above are approximate. The Sun changes sign at a different hour each year, so a birthday on the 20th, 21st or 22nd can fall either side. The form below computes the exact position, which is the only way to settle a cusp.
A Sun sign is a twelfth of humanity. Your Moon sign (how you feel) and your rising sign (how you come across) are what make a chart yours, and Vedic astrology counts your sign from the Moon, not the Sun. All of that is one birthday away.
How it is worked out
The dates are the usual spans of the Sun through the Western, tropical signs. The Sun changes sign at a different hour each year. So the calculator works it out from your exact birth moment instead of a table.
What this cannot tell you
- A birthday within a day or two of a change of sign can fall either side. Only the birth date, time and place settle it.
- Your Sun sign says nothing about your Moon sign or rising sign. Those need the birth details too.
- In Vedic astrology 'your sign' means your Moon sign, the Rashi, which a birthday table cannot give.

What sign am I if I was born on a cusp?
- You are one sign or the other, never both. The Sun changes sign at a different hour each year, so a birthday on the 20th, 21st or 22nd can fall either side, and for some signs the 18th, 19th or 23rd can too. The Sun's exact position at your birth moment decides it, which the calculator works out from your birth details.
Is my Vedic sign the same as my zodiac sign?
- Usually not. In Vedic astrology your sign is your Moon sign, the Rashi, measured on the sidereal zodiac. It is independent of your Sun sign.
