What is the difference between sun sign, moon sign, rashi and lagna?
The Sun sign is the one every Western column is written for. It describes how you push into the world: your drive, your pride, what you want to build.
The Moon sign describes how you feel, what comforts you and how you recharge. The Moon moves fast enough to change sign during a single day: it changes sign every two to three days, so the Moon sign needs the birth date and ideally the time. A sun-sign column never sees it, which is why columns so often miss.
The Rashi is what an Indian horoscope means by 'your sign'. It is your Moon sign measured against the fixed stars rather than the seasons. The two zodiacs are about 24 degrees apart, so a Western Moon in Leo is often a Vedic Moon in Karka (Cancer). Neither is wrong; they are different rulers laid on the same sky.
The Lagna, or rising sign, changes about every two hours, which is why astrologers ask for a birth time. It is the face your chart shows the world, and the houses of your chart are counted from it.
So 'my sign' has four honest answers, and a good reading uses all four. Enter your birthday below and you will see yours, side by side, with a sentence on each. To find just one, use the Moon sign, Rashi or Lagna calculator.
