Reading a child's chart: the year ahead, without the fear

A child's chart is read for temperament and season, never for fate. The Moon sign shows what settles the child. The running period and the slow planets show what kind of year it is.

In one question

How do I read my child's horoscope for the year?

The useful questions are about temperament and timing. What calms this child, and what fires them up? Which months suit a new school, an exam or a move?

The Moon sign speaks to the first. A Moon in a water sign tends to need reassurance before instruction. A Moon in a fire sign tends to need a challenge before it will sit still.

The dasha speaks to the second. A Mercury period is traditionally a studying period, and a Mars period an active one.

The rest of the year is the shape of the slow planets moving over the child's Moon, the transits. Where Jupiter is, the tradition sees help. Where Saturn is, it asks for patience. The tradition also looks for the months when the two agree. The year runs from the child's birthday.

Honest limits

What this cannot tell you

  • A chart describes tendencies. It does not decide who a child becomes, and it is not a guide to health or development.
  • Timing needs an accurate birth time. If a birth record lists the time, use it.
  • Astrology here is for reflection and cultural interest. It describes tendencies, does not predict events, and is not medical, legal or financial advice.
